Harthelm 1.2.1
What changed in Harthelm 1.2.1: a waiting page that keeps going, services that wake without waiting for the editor, Git commits that name the right person, terminals at their real size, and old Git remotes that work again.
Last updated 2026-10-19
Released 2026-10-13. API version 0.11.1 (one optional field added). A patch release without breaking changes and without database migrations: upgrade as usual.
helm upgrade harthelm oci://<your registry>/charts/harthelm --version 1.2.1 -n harthelm-system -f my-values.yamlWaking a workspace
- The waiting page keeps going. When you open a dev URL of a sleeping workspace, the page asks every few seconds whether it is up and reloads by itself when it is. One request that never got an answer could stop it for good; every request now has a timeout, the page retries with a growing pause, asks again at once when the tab, the window or the network comes back, and says so when it lost contact, with a link to reload.
- The page says what it waits for, for example Starting the workspace first: downloading its image (the first start after an update takes longer) or Starting web. The workspace's status in the console says Downloading the workspace image during that step.
- Services no longer wait for the editor. Where services run on the editor's node, they now start as soon as the editor's pod has its node, not when the editor is running. A wake no longer waits for a large editor image to download before your app starts.
- Images are pulled before anyone waits. A small pod on every node that workspaces may use downloads the editor,
service and agent images right after an upgrade, or when a node comes back, and keeps them there. It requests 1m CPU
and 8 MiB per node. Turn it off with
workspaces.prepull.enabled: false. - An image that cannot be downloaded right now no longer puts the workspace into an error. The workspace keeps waking, says that the image is being retried, and the services that can run already answer.
Git
- Commits in the editor name you. Each person who opens the editor commits under their own name and email, in the Source Control view and in the terminals of their own browser window. The status bar shows the name. The email is used only when your sign-in provider verified it. See Start from a repository.
- A fallback when no person is known: the editor commits as the workspace's owner, or with the name and email you
set with
git config --globalin the editor's terminal. That setting now lives on the workspace's volume and survives sleep and restarts. Setting it prints a short note, because a person's own identity still wins. - Old Git remotes work again. Workspaces cloned before Harthelm used TLS inside the cluster kept their
originon an address that is no longer reachable, sogit fetchandgit pushhung. Harthelm now sends that address to the current one, without changing your repository. - The status bar says when Git is unreachable. When the editor's background fetch fails, the status bar shows Git unreachable, with the reason on hover.
Terminals
- The first prompt is visible, and the terminal has its real width. A new terminal in the console opened at 80 columns and 24 rows and never learned its real size, so programs wrapped at 80 columns and the first prompt could scroll out of view. The console now sends the panel's size as soon as the terminal is shown.
